what NEL is
is the learning-process nature designed for man
and already active in your baby's brain at birth

will you stop it?

Nature has designed a step-by-step learning-process for the very young child and implanted it in the brain of every newborn baby.

Here this process is called NEL, Natural Early Learning. It's natures own way of ensuring a baby's development, beginning at a very early age, in order to develop and to survive to develop further from one generation to the next.

this learning-process is not applied or recognized
by the modern mother

introduction
to a vision and a choice

NEL is like you and your baby starting on a path leading up a beautiful mountainside. It's the mountain of Creation, of Life and it's very natural.

Soon your delighted child will be running ahead, skipping all over the place, free as a bird, or perhaps better, as a mountain goat. As you rise together you will see others below not interested in raising.

Eventually you will not be able to keep up with your child reaching for the top. At the top there will be a few others. All of them giants in their own right.

You might not want to climb all the way to the top or you'll choose a lower mountain. Or you might say no to starting on such a path and remain among those on level, "secure", ground.

The choice is yours. The future is your child's. Those on top influence the future of the world. For the good or for the bad.

Those on top with high values will change the world for the good. It's up to you.

From long ago

Neuroscientists have some amazing claims as to how the human brain, and through it the mind develops and how we begin to learn.

They also tie the old and the new together. New insights into how the human baby learned long ago have recently been re-discovered.

Perhaps re-discovered was the wrong term. The old-earth (page SSS) mother did not "know" of any process of learning. She just did what came to her naturally.

In the distant past only those that learned survived. In fact each baby had to be "above the norm" to survive. The old-earth baby had to learn a million things in no time at all during those crucial first months and years.

Nature programmed the budding mind to learn early on in a natural way.

Long before any schools existed and the concept of education was still far in the future, children learned in such a natural way how to manage, or more correctly, how to survive in life.

It is becoming evident that this inert capacity to survive is still within each baby born today. It's in your baby too.

It's claimed that every healthy baby born has a great potential within. At birth the baby has all it takes to become a giant. Then somehow the potential is watered down, the wings of development are clipped.

Many of our children cant take off into free flight but remain on the ground flapping their cut wings whilst a few (too many) become sometimes violent and mentally crippled dwarfs.

But all it really needs to unleash this potential is for the parents -- mainly the mother -- to find and to use the key to their child's mental treasures.

Every baby is born a millionaire, full of potential richness and talent but unable to use his riches. The mother is holding the key to all her baby's treasures and love alone is not that key.

What is the key?

The finding of the key is the understanding of natures learning-process designed for the very young child to learn in order to survive through life.

Here this process is called NEL and the using of the key is to apply NEL.

Relax. Nobody is selling you anything. NEL is not something new or a product going for the incredibly low $99.99 a throw. There is no guru behind NEL, no-one is trying to make a million or take you for a ride.

NEL could just as well be NOW (Natures Own Way) or TOGIT (The Only Game In Town) or something else silly.

Whatever, NEL is natures own way of how a baby learns at a very early age in order to develop and to survive from one generation to the next.

NEL is a biologically "implanted" program in a baby's mind and to ignore it and to supplant it with a man-made program (of early mass-child-care and later mind-conditioning "education") is as if chancing the natural mind into something monstrous.

To help the natural child obtain a high usage of her mental capacity the mother has, amongst other things, to understand the why and the how of stimulating her baby's senses during the very first years.

In the perfect situation natural early learning is never completed but becomes a way of life.

This process, that was once needed for survival, begins before birth the main "teachers" being nature, the mother and the environment.

By now you know that within your baby there is an innate ability, we could see it as a hunger, to learn according to a blueprint nature prepared a long time ago. You too had it at birth.

NEL
Natural Early Learning
as a method of learning

We are all confused by the multitude of "philosophies", "methods" and "principles", relating to education found in our society.

Some of these are "acceptable", some "controversial" and others even "radical" and "dangerous" depending on whom you ask.

The point made here is that your view on education is shaped by your cultural background and present mental environment.

For example, the term ECE is familiar to those studying for or having this expertise.

But it can be confused with NEL even though hardly anyone has heard about the latter.

ECE stands for Early Childhood Education covering the preschool period from the age of app. 2 years being an accepted part of the institutionalized Educational System.

You might have heard of 0-3 age learning, early intervention and some "free-thinking" or "natural" methods.

Something of their methods are found in the NEL program. Ops, here we go again. There is no such thing as a NEL program.

What we try to accomplish here is to find out as much as possible of how mother nature meant her children to learn and then to put it on paper, your screen, so that as much as possible of the original, natural, intent would be retained.

The term NEL  was chosen as the main three key components are included.

Natural

The concept of Natural is that the process of learning follows the genetically inherited harmony, pattern and time-periods (windows of opportunity, secure-bases etc.) in learning. It could be called "in tune with the neurological development" or simply natural.

Early

Early means from the time when the baby, or indeed the fetus, first receives, reacts to and registers stimulation. Stimulants are "messages" the baby receives through one of the 7 or more senses. More on page SSS.

Learning

Learning. The process of learning is completed only when:

1- stimulants/knowledge received (experience) is understood (in relation to other experiences),

2- evaluated (values and morals) and

3- put into practice by the student (baby/child), thus developing and changing the persons behavior (response).

The fetus is already "learning" from within the womb even though only some early parts of the learning-process are completed. Under ideal conditions the intellect begins to form and to function during the last 3-4 months before birth.

The unborn child receives outside stimulants that are registered in the brain and thus will affect future mental (and physical) development. More on page SSS.

It's perhaps problematic for some to see that a newborn baby will "feel" the difference between the good and the bad. But by using the words pleasant and unpleasant the picture changes.

These two opposites then become the symbolic foundation for what's right and what's wrong according to the mothers everyday values.

Thus the newborn still jumps straight from the above point 1 to point 3. The values and morals are then adopted with time from the behavior of the mother and the immediate environment.

Another point to bear in mind is that we are all born with certain instinctive actions and behavioral patterns. More on page SSS.

A multitude of these inborn actions like breathing, sucking, etc. and later the repulsion for snakes, spiders etc. all come from our distant past and not from the "learning" referred to above that takes place in the present now.

When does learning take place?

During the first year, and even before, this ability to "learn" is at its highest gradually lessening over the next 2-3 years. Meaningful early learning takes place until the age 6-7 but at a lesser intensity.

This is the period during which the main base for the intellect, emotion, values, social interaction and other mental function are formed. On this base all later learning will stand or fall.

The average "normal" person's (love for) learning tapers off during the teen-years and at the age of 20-25 the once-vibrant young explorer has faded into the gray everyday.

This is mainly due to our institutionalized schools "killing" the love for learning. More on page SSS.

But some people remain flexible students all their lives, changing (thus growing) as they continue learning. Especially if they have been given a natural early learning childhood.

Windows of opportunity

Your baby's motor development begins well before birth and continues gradually declining till the early fifth year.

The development of hearing, and basic mathematical sequencing, also begins before birth.

Emotional control, vision and social attachment begins shortly after birth and continues for just two years. 24 months is all you have.

The development of vocabulary lasts a bit longer whilst a second language is at its easiest from one to end of the third year.

Maths and logic is at its hottest from year one for the next three years.

Musical development begins at the third year going until the ninth.

These periods of development are called windows of opportunity, a once only in each baby's lifetime.

Most children miss the advantage of these opportunities.

will yours?

More on page SSS.

What if your child missed NEL?

Don't worry. 99 % + of today's babies do. That's the norm and such children are called normal. Or average. The average environment results in an average child. There is nothing wrong in that. Or is there?

Anyway, your baby has had it good so far, otherwise you would not be reading this. The average mother would not. See, you're already special.

As a rule babies and children experiencing an extremely limited environment can therefore be expected to become just that, limited.

You want to un-limit your child?

you have the strength
and the will is within you

genetic and other
factors
in and out of control

Most of us have been taught that we are the result of our genetic makeup. The genes trickled down from our forefathers through the generations to us and nothing can change what we are. Wrong. There's more to it.

Many believe that a genius is born with a high IQ, a gifted person with a gift and a mentally or emotionally disabled person is born with all that negative baggage. Wrong.

It's really simple;

- The genetics - the forefathers part

There is very little we can do regarding the genetics except to accept them and fit in with them. Some are tall, others short.

- The physical - the body-brain we live in and have to cope with

If the physiological side is normal and healthy all is well but if not sometimes corrective action can be taken. Some limp, others don't.

- The environment - that's mainly you, the mother

Now this is the big one. Here the sky is the limit. Give the right nurture and one day people will wonder in awe what made that person, your child, so great. Give the wrong nurture and tears will be shed.

 - The spiritual - how do you see it?

This is of course the most controversial one. According to mainstream Judaism the spirit enters the picture at conception. The father-to-be might still be breathing hard when a permanent relationship has been established on the spiritual level.

This relationship is carried on beyond the grave into the world to come. Reincarnation is accepted by some Jewish theologians and outside of Judaism the spiritual aspect has as many interpretations as the rainbow has hues.

So the rule is that do not look at the state or the situation of the little one at birth. Don't worry about the genetical, biological, spiritual, medical or any other …  -al factors. Most of these can't be changed.

Be grateful for what you have been blessed with. Love and accept unconditionally what has been given you and start building. Remember that nothing is perfect except for our dreams.

But every baby can be lifted into another, higher level by applying natures own ways. These increase the mental capacity, secure an emotional stability and maturity and the overall ability for enhanced functioning of the mind and the spirit.

reaching for
a higher level

in everything

Nature has geared its subjects for survival. All the decisions made by an individual of any species, be it then from the plant or animal worlds, including humans, are based on survival of that species. More on page SSS.

Therefore we all have this inborn need to climb up to a higher ground in order to be safe if the floodwaters sweep through the valley. Also in us humans this need to learn is a process that has begun before the birth.

As we know there are species that are incredibly developed at birth, ready to fight for their lives from the first minute on.

We humans are born helpless and will remain helpless for quite few years. But during those years the development of our mental powers accelerate like a rocket heading for Mars. Only we humans have that ability and that's what differentiates us from the lower species.

That is if modern education does not keep the child tied to a deeply driven peg.

Recent findings by leading research centers show that a person's mental capacity can be dramatically developed by the  stimulation received at a very, very young age. Even pre-natally! More on page SSS.

the
mental world
is where the action is

Lets look at some facts

The child at birth is biologically "designed" for an unbelievably high and immeasurable mental capacity. The average person today achieves only some 2-7 % of this unfathomed potential.

The "design" being fulfilled depends on the child being emotionally, mentally and physically stimulated (under the right conditions) in order to reach the full potential of the mind that's within.

Because of the lack of these stimulants the child comes out of the process with a mind only partly developed. Like an apple plucked in midseason, still green and sour, never to ripen or with sweetness.

Mental capacity

And what is this mental capacity? It's the capacity to hold. A big jar holds much more than a small one.

It's the sum total of all what we are and possess in a mental sense. All the things we "carry" or that "dwell" inside our head, the things that make up our mind.

It is our total intellectual and emotional profile, our character and personality, abilities and giftedness, morals and values, even our spirituality.

Intellect (IQ) alone includes 10 different subheadings. Some claim even more.

When you add all the other components that can nest within our vast potential of mental CAPACITY we also need mental ABILITY for it to function well.

We can see

Mental ability

One of the boys was able to ride the bicycle, the other did not have the ability.

A person with a good mental ability is able to use her mental capacity well. If not, she would be like a millionaire unable to use her riches or as a car with it's fuel tank full but missing the engine so that all the energy within the fuel could not be transformed into motion.

The odd peaks of the mental world

There are "retarded" individuals whose mental ability can peak far above the genius percentage. Someone can excel in a narrow specific intellectual sector whilst being incapable of average mental functioning in other areas.

Like the young man with a photographic memory who saw a complex building in passing and could draw it in minute detail when back in the institution for the mentally disabled.

And there was the case of one who could play classical music off by heart after hearing the piece just once or the one with artistic creative skills who was recognized as a renown sculptor.

The unknown limits of mental capacity

We use only below 10 % of our total mental potential or capacity, some experts say as low as 2-3 %.

Individuals considered geniuses are estimated having 20-30 % of their mental potential in use.

Beyond the physical

There have been verified instances when a "normal" person close to death or in some other extremely dramatic circumstances has risen to unbelievable heights in mental and spiritual performance including "superhuman" physical acts.

So where does the limit lay? We have already entered the spiritual realm where the biological brain and a world unseen meet and the two keep their secrets even though science attempts to unravel the mystery.

More on page SSS.

Summary of mental capacity

There seem to be no firm agreement, understanding or proof of the human mental capacity's structure or its borders. Speculations and theories abound. It's like the deep oceans once where, full of unanswered questions, like the deep space is today.

Modern psychology has set some basic guidelines for social purposes and keeps a brave face as if everything is known and under control. But psychology is not an exact science. There are no definite units to measure with and no fast rules or laws.

The term "mental universe" that is sometimes used depicts a likely scenario of the unlimited with unknown factors that cannot be measured or controlled, only speculated upon.

from where do
the greats
come from?

Where do they come from, all these great men and women, the inventors, artists and leaders of people? What is the trigger that sets them apart from the rest of us?

A fluke? Rembrandt's father was a miller and Benjamin Franklin's a candle maker.

Does something from the past, like a brilliant gene, re-appear comet like, every few generations?

Or a sudden and emotionally very meaningful event changes the whole life and its direction?

An abnormally developed brain, one with some parts degenerated but with others superbly brilliant?

The debate goes on. But one thing is for certain, you as the mother have the key in your hand to preserve that original mind that lies within your child.

and NEL is your key

the
history of NEL
began at creation

Primeval survival skills

As mentioned in the introduction the human baby had to learn much and quickly in order to survive. This inert ability and need to learn at a very early age still remains.

Historical examples

In historical times we can find records of great creators and leaders whose early childhood was saturated with stimulating activity and mental experiences. These rouse above others.

NEL in recent history

About 200 years ago an Austrian named Karl Witte declared to his friends that if he would have a son he would educate him to be a man above others. He did and the son, also named Karl Witte, entered university at a very early age to become an academic giant.

Interestingly Witte senior had kept a diary of what he had taught his son. It was found and read 100 years later by a Scottish scholar who then decided to apply the method to his four children.

Two of them became world-renowned inventors and leaders in their field of sciences and the others obtained an above average position in life.

Go to page SSS for more on Witte.

NEL today

It seems impossible to find any structured practical application of any kind of comprehensive natural early learning on the web, in literature or being practiced in any meaningful way.

There are some books and other sources dealing with some limited aspects besides which a few revealing articles have been written and published worldwide including South East Asia and China.

It seems likely that the core-idea has taken root somewhere and that it could be used as a tool to further questionable, even radical causes.

It is therefore our duty as Jews to install in our children not only greatness per sei, but a quality of human moral values that can sustain our call to be examples upon the nations.

this should be the duty of every enlightened Jewish mother
or of any mother on this earth

.

is it possible to
apply NEL today?

Yes. Not only possible but necessary. Just read on.

"education"
today

- 1    The Norm. Nursery-Daycare-School

The average or normal child is usually placed in some sort of infant-daycare from a very early age, here in Israel at three months, and from there into the kindergarten day care system.

A few lucky ones are taken care of by the mother or some close relative.

These first three years are not recognized as something extra-special, the main emphasize being on preparing for the advanced kindergarten and later for school and the acquisition of general social skills.

This preschool-period is followed by regular education provided by the local public or private school systems.

These children's intellectual and emotional state forms the social average.

- 2    Home-schooling. Nursery-Daycare-Home

A growing number of children worldwide are schooled at home. Instead of going out to regular school the child stays at home being "schooled", usually by the mother.

Here too the child does not receive any special understanding for the early learning needs.

The reasons for home schooling are many the two main ones being religious and children with special needs.

The principles, philosophies and aims parents pursue are like the colors of the rainbow. But no one seems to catch all the hues even if that would be possible.

In some cases the home simply replaces the school building as the main place for learning but the parents have a direct say in why, how, when, where and what is being learned.

As a result home-schooled children perform academically and socially better than the "normally" educated child and universities prefer them.

Into this group falls many other educational philosophies outside of the system itself.

- 3    The NEL Option. Home based

There are very few NEL children. Children that by chance or through purpose receive that all-important understanding and attention from their parents before and during the first three years including that first hour of life are rare indeed.

Children who have been given the NEL stimulation can be expected to rise high above the "normal child" and also high above those schooled at home.

The academia has a very limited experience and have difficulties in identifying students with a NEL background but certainly will grab them once they realize what a gem they have.

These children can be expected to become exceptional academic, creative or leading individuals.

- 4    The NEL Option. Group based

A group of mothers with likewise views can cooperate in their natural early learning pursuits and having their children attend NEL-group meetings at alternative homes.

This of course is a compromise from the one-to-one home based option in point 3.

The beginning of NEL, the first hour of life

This is the hour for mother and baby, for their privacy, for getting to know each other. It's the hour filled with silence, love, dim lights, tastes and smells.

An hour no-one else can reach.

A secure niche, a soft bed, curled up together, nothing else exists.

NEL has begun.

The first three years

During the first three years of life a child is capable of learning more than at any other time. It is as if the neo cortex part of the new brain would be desperately hungry for learning, gobbling up all experience that comes its way.

There are "windows of opportunity" wide open in the rapidly growing brain. But they are open only for a set time, then they close for forever.

During this intense, approximate three-year, period the ability to learn and the capacity to retain and eventually to use the information obtained is awesome.

But this ability for learning decreases fast. The brain is still malleable and should be actively stimulated till the age of 6-7 with another spurt at the early teens.

If the child has successfully progressed through the Secure-base phases the process of learning will continue throughout life. More on page SSS.

Historically these facts have at times been recognized by observant scholars but social priorities and other "development" have continued to stop the practical recognition of the original way for babies to learn.

It is only during the last few years that this knowledge has emerged and created some, yet unfulfilled, interest.

And today

Research has proven beyond any doubt the huge impact on the baby's development the natural early learning process can have.

This fact is not recognized or applied in any practical educational way in our modern societies.

Why? Because social needs call for the citizen that conform to the norms presented to him.

The mother of this citizen is discouraged from stepping outside of the established and popular social early childhood and educational framework.

Thus only a part of the child's free mental potential is being allowed to develop.

you and your child are being controlled

it's hard to find
criticism
of NEL

Why? Because the concept of learning the way nature intended has long since been replaced by the way man wants to govern. We simply have forgotten whom we are. Or then we don't want to know.

We are led from birth to grave along a path strange to the child just born.

But when discussing the pro's and con's of NEL with, be it then the average young mother or the professional educator, therapist or pediatrician, the counter arguments remain unmovable.

Too radical, impractical, socially impossible, economically not viable, too demanding, simply not adaptable into our cultural framework.

Those few that recognize that nature was here long before man begun to dominate and that man is still born as a natural being cry; "It's simply too late".

NEL as a
way of life

a life of self-defined quality

When the natural early learning process covers successfully the main aspects explained in the learning programs it gives the child an enviably complete life-structure.

The natural early learning process is never completed. It becomes a way of life till 120.

These aspects include the intellectual capacity (or better, capacities), emotional maturity, sense of values, morals and responsibility and of course the mysterious spiritual.

NEL will lead to the understanding of physical and mental health, the effects of adverse cultural "musts", such as popular food, music, social habits etc.

Among these important aspects are also social comprehension and tolerance for minor and extreme cultural groups and subsequent attitude and practical activity towards harmonious coexistence.

the mother's role

Before you begin, love yourself. Someone said "The greatest gift a mother can give her child is to love herself". Sounds daft. But it's so. Go to page SSS, read, think and feel. Then come back.

You begin by;

- 1   studying and obtaining understanding of what natural early learning is, something you already know in your heart

- 2   how it relates to your own views and of values in life

- 3   how to apply it to your baby

Then you could to find materials, resources, and ideas and mix these together into a program.

This follows by the continuous daily "learning", this being very intense during the first months and years but continuing at a lesser pace until your child is in the early teens.

For you to do NEL requires greatness of character and comprehensive love for your child and for the world.

These are within you only you have been told otherwise. Believe in yourself.

You are a visionary, one that can see the beauty of life and of this wonderful earth. In your heart you understand our past and present, and you see that we wrong our children in the way we approach and educate them.

You can see the future and you are willing to participate, and indeed go it alone, in changing our world for the better.

You will change, feel a different person, one with a mission and a purpose of value.

You will feel like a trailblazer being on the cutting edge, you will know that your part is not small and that you are making a difference.

You will especially be called to show that determination you know you have, the courage and strength, capability and capacity. You might have to stand alone against criticism, rejection and scorn.

Some want to pull you down, back to modern "normalcy". But you are busy with the "original mind" that you know lies in your child and you do not want it dwarfed.

In spite of all you have, or you create, the resources, the possibility and opportunity to fulfill the mission you have taken upon yourself.

Go to page 3-2.1 The mother, for more.

the father's role

In the ancient family-unit the fathers role regarding the children's learning was minimal except when the boys where instructed in the manly responsibilities of hunting, religious dogma etc.

There are many historical examples when the father has especially had his offspring, or in some cases someone else's child, instructed from an early age for some particular purpose.

There are also examples of how a father himself has instructed or created circumstances through which the child has become an extraordinary individual.

In today's scenario the father's role is suggested to be supportive, sharing and contributing.

See Page SSS for details on the role of the father.

Please consider your husband

Remember that he is very vulnerable, emotional, jealous, simple and easily hurt. He will forever be mixed up in his role in this life. When the baby comes home from the hospital he just might feel that's time for him to move out.

In one case everything was rosy but when the baby arrived the husband felt himself rejected. The soft breasts that gave him so many delights suddenly belonged to another. What before had made his life worthwhile became directed towards the newcomer.

Please remember that the fully grown adult male Homo Sapiens will remain a boy at heart and yet show many of the primitive and sometimes cruelly selfish traits of his ancestors.

Then you might have the "I've been left out" husband who truly is envious that only you can experience the miracle of giving birth, only you can nurse and be so intimately close to that wonder, my child.

What is the right time to "include" him into the inner circle and how?

Go to page 3-2.1 The father, for more.

a vision
and a choice

Now that you know something about NEL, it's up to you to make the choice. The vision can be haunting and beckoning but your "reality" ties you down.

How far can you go? Can you or can you not allow your child to reach his' or hers' fullest potential.

Or will you settle for normalcy? Or do a compromise? Clip the wings only halfway?

the choice
is yours

Where and when do we destroy the inborn great mind in our child? Does it start in the hospital where the baby is separated from the mother? Or at home when we stifle the baby with our continuous no's and don'ts?

Or at the day-care center when she has to compete, is compared, humiliated or mentally beaten? Or at school when she becomes one with the crowd loosing what once was she, her initiative, self esteem?

How do we keep her back from being the bright mind she was born to be? By restraining her curiosity, by hinting that she should do things the way WE want them to be done? By ignoring her when WE think that an adult, a phone call, house cleaning, cooking or etc is more important than our child?

Or by us being too comfortable in front of the TV instead of going for a walk, or even a jog that our child asks for, knowing that it would be good for us, thus expressing her love for us and for our wellbeing.

Every moment is new and the choice is yours at every moment.

don't let others shape your child's future
let your child do it
